Soul Sanctuary

Everyday formation in care.

Some of the most significant care people receive doesn't come from a professional. It comes from a friend who listens without judgement, a family member who knows when to show up, a colleague who notices something is wrong and takes the time to ask.

Soul Sanctuary exists to equip those people.

As the training arm of Sanctuary Counselling and Supervision, Soul Sanctuary offers practical, accessible formation for community members, church teams, family carers, and volunteers — people who care for others in everyday life and want to do it with greater confidence, wisdom, and skill.

What’s On Offer

Evening Seminars

Two-hour sessions that introduce a single topic. A clearer language for what you're already encountering, and a stronger sense of what helps. Practical, conversational, and useful from the same week.

Half-Day Workshops

Time to develop skill and practice. Space to rehearse how care actually happens — what to say, what not to, how to stay grounded — alongside others doing the same work.

Short Courses

Three or four sessions across a month. Sustained formation in a small group, with time to integrate what you're learning and grow into it.

Topics include: Listening well, emotional support, grief and loss, mental health awareness, supporting someone in crisis, spiritual care, healthy boundaries, and caring for carers.

Care for someone you love — a parent, a partner, a child, a friend in a hard season

Notice you're often the one others turn to when something is wrong

Lead or volunteer in a church, ministry, or community care team

Want to grow your capacity to listen, support, and stay grounded over time

Are simply curious about care and what it asks of us

Our First Event ——

Caring Well: Listening Well — An Evening Seminar

Most people want to help. Not everyone knows how to listen in a way that actually does.

This two-hour evening seminar introduces practical, accessible frameworks for listening well — helping you support friends, family, and those around you with greater care, confidence, and wisdom.

You will explore:

What good listening actually looks like — and what gets in the way

How to respond wisely without rushing to fix or advise

How to notice emotional and spiritual needs beneath the surface

How to offer genuine support while maintaining healthy boundaries

This seminar is warm, practical, and suitable for anyone — no prior training required.

The Soul Sanctuary Network

Soul Sanctuary is built on a conviction that good care formation needs more than one voice. Over time, I'm building a network of trusted practitioners — counsellors, chaplains, allied health professionals, and others — who share a commitment to equipping ordinary people to care well. The network starts small, with practitioners I already trust, and will grow as the work does.

The vision is intentionally informal and collegiate: not a tightly managed organisation, but a friendly, high-trust circle of practitioners who bring their own expertise into Soul Sanctuary events while operating within a shared values framework — warmth, wisdom, accessibility, and community.

Most facilitators will share a Christian foundation, though that's a preference rather than a requirement. The network is open to practitioners of other backgrounds whose work aligns with the values.

If you're a practitioner interested in facilitating under the Soul Sanctuary banner, I'd welcome a conversation.

Our Values

Wisdom

We draw on professional expertise, evidence-based practice, spiritual depth, and lived experience. We don't trade in quick fixes.

Welcome

We create spaces where people can learn safely — to ask honest questions, acknowledge their limits, and bring whatever they're already carrying. Our practice is trauma-informed in posture and pace.

Accessibility

We design for ordinary people, not just professionals. Jargon-free, practical, and grounded.

Community

We believe care happens in relationship. Our work is oriented toward strengthening the human connections that hold families, friendships, and communities together.
